For Goodness Sake's Community Involvement
- Truckee Tahoe Wellness Centers: For Goodness Sake recently secured a Placer County MHSA Innovations Grant for the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District to create on-campus Wellness Centers at North Tahoe High School, Sierra Continuation High School and Truckee High School. The Wellness Centers will serve as entry points for students to connect to supportive adults from community organizations and access holistic wellness services. This project is a collaborative effort between the school district, high school students and community non-profits to provide supports to strengthen students' physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being and help them develop sustainable wellness practices for life. A key component of this project is that students are actively involved in the planning and shaping of the Wellness centers to ensure that the centers are approachable and accessible. Volunteers from numerous community organizations will staff the Wellness Centers and provide presentations and workshops on various wellness topics, such as nutrition, healthy relationships and minfulness practices. For Goodness Sake is actively involved in the planning of the Wellness Centers and we plan to start offering workshops in the upcoming months.
- Truckee Tahoe Peace Project (TTPP):
Inspired by the Peace One Day organization, For Goodness Sake led a group of community partners in the Sept. 21st, 2011 Peace Day Celebrations and numbers of peace related lead up events. TTPP, will continue to grow and focus on Peace for community throughout the year. Please visit the TTPP website for upcoming events in 2012!
For Goodness Sake is actively involved in the leadership of the Community Collaborative of Tahoe Truckee (CCTT) through participation in the CCTT Management Team and Leadership Team. CCTT is a regional collaborative comprised of community advocates and service providers from the Truckee Tahoe area who vision and work together to create a safe and healthy environment for children, youth, and families. CCTT is comprised of more than 40 health, social service, education and community-based organizations who meet monthly to collaborate, network, share and learn. For Goodness Sake is working closely with CCTT community organizations to broaden their understanding of health and well-being and offer resources to support the work they are already doing in the community. During the past year, we have offered 3 workshops on Mindful Parenting, The Power of our Thinking, and Recognizing our Gifts.
