This class, led by Phyllis Matyi, is for people wanting to listen/study, contemplate/ investigate, and meditate.
All classes will include Meditation Instruction:
Mindfulness instructions leading to Insight as ground for non-dual meditation.
There will also be questions, interactions and discussions.
These classes are open for both beginners and experienced practitioners.
These classes provide guideposts along the Buddhist Path left for us by those who have pointed the way. These classes will include the intellectual, psychological and spiritual parts of ourselves, so that we do not, by isolating the latter, have a spiritual by-pass and short-circuit the integration process. On the contrary, our practice should empower us to unwind our patterns and drop our conjuring, our habitual stories. This allows for the healing and unifying of body, speech and mind, which in turn supports the awakening process. The ultimate guru is within and is unveiled through sincere practice with authentic teachings and guidance. Gradually we grow stronger, more self-reliant, confident and increasingly in touch with our own inner wisdom and the ability of spontaneous, compassionate action for the benefit of all beings and not just for ourselves.
Phyllis trained in the Zen while living in Asia in her 20’s and began practicing Tibetan Buddhism in 1983.
She completed a Five Year Vajrayana Lineage Program, similar to the traditional three-year retreat, but as a householder, under the guidance of Lama Palden, resident Lama of Sukhasiddhi.
She completed the first inter-Lineage three year Zen/Vajrayana Teacher Training Program and is authorized to teach in the Kagyu Lineage (Tibetan/Vajrayana). Accordingly, she holds the title "Mitra," Sanskrit for "spiritual friend." Phyllis apprenticed in the Navajo Lineage as well and is an attorney in private practice.
